Obituary for Robert A Vilstrup
Robert Alfred Vilstrup, Luck, died July 20, 2006, after a long battle with a rare liver disease. He was 75 years old. He was born March 17, 1931, in Milwaukee to George and Mabel (Johnson) Vilstrup. They returned to the Bone Lake community in 1933, and began farming. Bob was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and a longtime member of the Bone Lake Lutheran Church. He attended the Lafollette grade school, and graduated from the Luck High School in 1949, where he excelled in athletics. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, bowling and golfing. He went on many fishing trips to Canada with his brothers, son and friends almost every spring. He was an environmentalist and enjoyed planting thousands of trees. He was honored as the 1986 Polk County Sportsman of the Year. Bob was married to Maxine (Mickey) Olson on August 22, 1953. One son, Tom Bryan, was born on August 18, 1955. Bob was a full-time farmer until 1961, and then began working for the USDA in Balsam Lake as the County Executive Director of the Polk County ASCA office where he assisted hundreds of farmers in participating in USDA farm programs. He was a 4-H leader for many years, and a board member of the United Pioneer Home for 13 years. He was a longtime member of the Polk County Sportsman Club. He was very proud of the three grandchildren and enjoyed attended all of their games and activities. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Bernie Schroder, Victor Swanson and Lester Madsen. Bob is survived by his wife, Mickey; son, Tom (Lori) of Luck; brothers, Dick (Donna) of Madison; Jim (Polly) of Pardeeville; sister, Mary Schroder of Cathlamet, Wash.; and sister-in-law, Elaine Madsen of Osceola. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kelly (Mark) DeMoe of Star Prairie, Bryan and Shannon Vilstrup of Luck; and great-grandchildren, Emily and Morgan DeMoe; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was held Sunday, July 23, at the Rowe Funeral Home in Luck. A memorial service was held July 24, at the Bone Lake Lutheran Church, with interment in the Bone Lake Cemetery.
