Obituary for Alice Nielsen
Alice Alexia (Olson) Nielsen, 96, resident of the United Pioneer Home in Luck, WI died Wednesday, September 7, 2011.
Alice was born on August 6, 1915 in Crystal Lake Township, Comstock, WI to Otto and Mae Olson. She was baptized August 29, 1915 and was confirmed on May 25, 1930 at Augustana Lutheran Church in Cumberland.
She graduated from Cumberland High School in 1931. Following high school she attended Rice Lake Normal School and graduated in June, 1933. She first taught at Woodside School on County Road G. She later taught in the primary room at Maple Grove which was a state-graded, two-room school.
Alice also attended the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN for two years. She worked as a Parish Worker in Kansas City and Forest Lake for many years.
She married Peter Nielsen and together they operated Nielsen’s Fountain in Luck.
Alice’s extended family was very important to her and she was always interested in what was happening in their lives. When family was together there was always a Scrabble game taking place on the Olson side.
She enjoyed organizing parties for family and church groups and would play piano when needed at the Pioneer Home in Luck where she lived for about ten years.
She is survived by her step-children, Judy (Don) Solstad and Jerry (LaVonne) Nielsen; 9 grandchildren, Darla Reeves, Paula Wills, Barbara Benson, Angela Anderson, Steve Nielsen and Stan Nielsen, Brad Solstad, Brian Solstad and Sue Johnson; sister, Joyce (Art) Eldahl; and sister-in-law, Theta Olson.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Peter; step-son, Gordon Nielsen; sister, Hazel Nystrom and brother, Otto Olson, Jr.
A Graveside Service was held at the Luck Village Cemetery on Saturday, September 10 at 11:00AM.
